> VINCENT VITTOZ AND HIS PALS FOR THEIR FIRST TRANSJURASSIENNE!
THE AMBIANCE WAS RELAXED TODAY DURING THE TRADITIONAL TRANSJURASSIENNE PRESS CONFERENCE THAT WAS HELD AT THE CONSEIL RÉGIONAL DE FRANCHE-COMTÉ IN BESANÇON.
THERE WERE SEVERAL GOOD REASONS FOR THIS POSITIVE MOOD. FIRST OF ALL, THE SNOW CONDITIONS ARE GOOD ON THE WHOLE MASSIF JURASSIEN AND THE 2004 EDITION WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE MYTHICAL 76KM TRAIL… THEN, WITH 2 800 ENTRIES FOR THE 76KM EVENT AND 500 FOR THE 50KM EVENT, THE PARTICIPATION RATE IS MUCH HIGHER THAN LAST YEAR. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, JEAN-CLAUDE DALLOZ, PRESIDENT OF TRANS’ORGANISATION, OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED THE PARTICIPATION OF THE HAUT-SAVOYARD VINCENT VITTOZ, THE FRENCH N°1 CROSS-COUNTRY SKIER, OF HIS TEAM MATES FROM THE FRENCH TEAM, AS WELL AS OF EMMANUEL JONNIER AND ALEXANDRE ROUSSELET, THE 2 JURASSIENS WITH WHOM HE WON A HISTORICAL VICTORY IN A WORLD CUP EVENT LAST SATURDAY IN LA CLUSAZ. STÉPHANE PASSERON, ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE FRENCH TEAM AND A REGULAR FAVOURITE IN THIS EVENT WILL CERTAINLY HAVE AN EYE ON AN UNEXPECTED BUT FRIENDLY BUNCH OF COMPETITORS…

> TRANSJU 2004: 25 YEARS OF PASSION!
The Transjurassienne was created in 1979 by Jacky Mandrillon and Georges Berthet. It has now become the most popular mass ski event in France: each year, 3 500 skiers compete along the 76 km ski trail through the Jura and the Doubs departments (Franche-Comté Region), with a short incursion into neighbouring Switzerland.
La Transjurassienne is also the only French event, member of the Worldloppet, the famous international federation for long distance events.
Following Patrick Roelli’s (Switzerland) and Annick Vaxelaire-Pierrel’s remarkable victories in 2003, the whole Massif jurassien is once again getting ready to offer skiers and supporters a spectacular race and exhibition.

On February 15, 3 500 skiers, over a thousand volunteers and throngs of supporters will have only one thing in mind: the glorious celebration of the 25th anniversary and 26th edition of La Transjurassienne.

To these enthusiasts, as well as to the people in our region, La Transjurassienne is much more than a skiing event: it is a matter of passion…
Passion for the sport of cross country skiing, without which La Transjurassienne would not exist;
Passion for long distances, 76 km from Lamoura (Jura) to Mouthe (Doubs), the longest race in France, and the world’s second next to the Swedish Vasaloppet (90 km)… a mythical challenge to all dedicated skiers;

For those who feel overwhelmed by such a challenge, the Transjurassienne offers a 50km event now open to men (2004 novelty), the MiniTrans 10km and 25km event (Saturday, February 14) as well as the Transjeune 2km to 16km event open to skiers aged from 7 to 19 (Wednesday, February 11).

The 50km Women’s event runs from Les Rousses to Mouthe and is designed after the 2000 World Cup edition (Sunday, February 15).

Passion for the scenery: skiing the Transjurassienne is a great opportunity to discover and enjoy the beauty and variety of the Jurassienne Mountains, both gentle and hilly.
And finally, there is the passion for the ambience. The “Transju’ spirit” is no “sales talk”!. No other race engenders such excitement from the supporters who cheer all along the ski trail, at the food stations and through each village. And all the skiers will confirm that the most efficient stimulus for racing is… popular cheering!

> News flash: over 1500 skiers have already entered the race!- The first entry was turned in by Andy Flejszman (Evian) beginning of September… Andy is 22 years old and participated in the 2003 Transju as a trainee! The first kilometres of ski trails have already been groomed in the Jura Mountains (especially in the Forêt du Massacre). As of today, 1500 skiers have registered in one of the 2004 Transjurassienne events.
